August 25th 2007 Linux Adverts

I came across these Linux Ads the other day ad thought they were great. You don’t see very many ads for Open Source operating systems. Now I know they are a F.U.D. campaign against Microsoft but I’m OK with that.

Linux gives you the house

Freedom of choice

As much as it pains me, I have finally decided to join a social network. This has been eating at me for some time now as I’m very much against these. I feel they are really not worth their time and once bought out by larger companies, they become a tool for marketers. On the other hand I do see the potential for “keeping track” of your friends.

I’m still not to sure about the whole thing but we’ll see how it goes. You can find me on Facebook.

August 10th 2007 Server Issues

I have been a big Ubuntu Linux supporter since their first release a few years ago. I have been using their server products off an on since I became a Linux fan but I have to say that I’ve become less impressed. Recently my Apache web server decided to start locking up for X amount of time after I remotely logged in. I can’t begin to tell you how obnoxious that became. So to fix this I reinstalled the server.

However this time we went with Debian Etch. The thing to note about Debian is they are know for their stability. I can tell you right off of the bat that the server is much more responsive with Debian the Ubuntu. It’s funny because Ubuntu is derived from Debian but it doesn’t feel the same once installed.

Everyone that I know who runs Linux uses Ubuntu Linux for their Desktop machine. This is in part to it being such a friendly and easy to use distribution but also because they all know me and I’m a big supporter of Ubuntu. So I say Ubuntu for the Desktop is great but stick with Debian if you want a rock solid server.
